About Signposts

‘Signposts’ has been developed by IDEAS, a network of organisations and individuals involved in Education for Global Citizenship across Scotland.

The site offers a collection of around 80 resources that staff at Scotland’s Development Education Centres have found particularly useful in their work and particularly relevant to the Scottish Curriculum. In selecting the resources, they have been guided by the kind of criteria laid out in the RISC guide ‘What makes a good global citizenship resource?’ RISC is a Development Education Centre based in Reading.

As we go through the year, new and topical resources will be highlighted and added to the collection. You can sign up (link to email alerts) to receive an email when this happens.
On an annual basis, the collection will be reviewed by IDEAS’ panel of experienced global citizenship educators. If you would be interested in being part of this panel, please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Any new and topical resources added through the year will be assessed by two reviewers from the Signposts panel against the RISC criteria. Resources will be retained or removed from the collection on the basis of their recommendation. Any resources that become out of date or less relevant will be removed so as to maintain numbers at around 80.

Signposts is an intrinsic part of the work of the Global Learning Programme Scotland. The Programme also offers free Professional Learning training sessions, follow-up sharing and networking sessions and an on-line Global Citizenship magazine Stride. All support to schools is offered through six Scottish regional Development Education Centres. The Programme is managed by the IDEAS network and is part of a UK-wide programme funded by the UK Government.
