Dressed not to kill: fashion and biodiversity

What is the impact of fashion on biodiversity? This resource is inspired by the Open University’s Hunting for Feathers film, part of their ‘Art and Climate Change’ series. It uses historical artworks to explore how fashion from the seventeenth century to the present day has impacted biodiversity by encouraging the hunting of endangered species.

Use the resource to:

  • find out about how fashion has impacted biodiversity
  • analyse artworks to discover what they can tell us about fashion in the past
  • explore how media is used to communicate fashion trends
  • design an ecologically sustainable fashion accessory
