About Signposts
Signposts is a platform of tried and tested resources which support active Global Citizenship. Our aim is to provide a range of practical, relevant and inspiring resources which support practitioners at every level to embed global citizenship within their setting.
Signposts Resources
All resources are relevant to the Scottish Curriculum and have been selected and quality assured by experienced global citizenship educators and classroom practitioners. Each resource satisfies key areas from the following three categories:
Signposts resources:
- provide tools to support the development of teachers’ confidence and skills in an area of Global Citizenship.
- provide support for active, participatory learning with space for children’s voice to be represented.
- support teachers in an exploration of controversial issues.
Signposts resources:
- support teachers and learners in making local to global connections.
- support teachers and learners to explore injustice and inequality, and provide tools to empower learners to contribute towards positive change
- provide access to a diverse range of viewpoints and values, giving a balanced view of a topic and/or support in challenging stereotypes.
- focus on education not fundraising
- link to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Signposts resources:
- support teachers and schools to embed Global Citizenship across the curriculum.
- support teachers to engage with a range of experiences and outcomes from Curriculum for Excellence
- provide tools for an inter-disciplinary topic approach to Global Citizenship themes.
Who we are
The Signposts website is managed by the Development Education Centres Scotland (DECs) and funded by Oxfam Scotland and the Scottish Government. The Signposts team are a panel of experienced global citizenship educators, all of whom are members of the IDEAS network. The team is also supported by a focus group of practitioners working in Scottish Education. If you are interested in joining the Signposts team or the teacher focus group please email us.
