Remediating Stevenson is a teaching resource exploring remediated (remediate: to change or adapt something so it works in a new way or for a new purpose) graphic novel versions of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Pacific Tales. Designed for CfE 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Levels, this resource brings Stevenson’s stories to life through contemporary visual storytelling, accompanied by curriculum-linked teaching materials.
Created by different artists, the graphic novels provide both a contemporary and historical indigenous perspective which frames the stories in new ways, including the centring of female characters, the adaptation of plot to reflect traditional knowledge and beliefs, and giving voice to those who were marginalised in original versions.
The three graphic novels are accompanied with classroom ready resources which take a critical literacy, decolonial approach to exploring the stories. If you teach at upper primary and secondary level with an interest in English, Literacy and Art, these resources will be great additions to your resource library.
